The Need For Intimate Wellness

Most of you may not have cared much for intimate wellness until now. Perhaps some of you didn’t know any better or felt ashamed to talk or deal with it.

Guess what? You’re not alone.

Kalpana Kumari faced the same issues. She wasn’t sure why her intimate areas would itch at times even though she had taken a thorough bath. She did not bother talking to her husband about it — a bit out of embarrassment and a bit out of the idea that what can a man do about it, anyway!

Many women across India feel left in the lurch owing to the massive gap in information flow regarding intimate hygiene and intimate healthcare.

Ananya Desai (name changed) was a little bolder and even spoke to her gynecologists' about it. Still, she wasn’t sure if the occasional rashes and odor in her private parts were due to her body’s poor chemical balance or were caused by the products that her doctor had prescribed for her health condition.

But that should not be the case for women these days. At least, not anymore.

Interestingly, even before discussing our problems concerning our intimate parts with a professional, most of us these days tend to go online and look for answers that some doctor or wellness expert, hailing from the US or Europe, may have given about our problems. That seems to be the easiest and, frankly, the most non-intrusive way for us to gain a better understanding and knowledge in this regard.

And no one’s holding that against you.

Sure, we all do that from time to time. And thankfully, more and more people are talking about it openly. You can see well-known people, like celebs and internet influencers, spreading awareness about these issues on videos posted online on blogs and social media.

In fact, quite a few medical, fitness, and wellness companies these days hire influencers to talk about the importance of intimate wellness products for both sexes, especially considering the fast-paced lifestyle that people live these days and the thousands of microbial risks that they are exposed to every single day!

More importantly, women, these days, are more conscious and concerned about their intimate health and that of their partners, since the latter affects them, too. And they understand the consequences of that.

Now, the question is: Do we need products to ensure intimate wellness?

But before we get to that, What is intimate wellness? And how do we ensure that?

As with anything on the internet, everyone seems to have a different opinion about the matter. But what exactly is all the hype about, and how does intimate wellness affect you, personally?

Well, we come bearing the answers…

Intimate Wellness — It is A Necessity!

Intimate wellness isn’t just about a person’s ability to enjoy intimacy with his/her partner — physical or emotional. While sex does help improve health and lifespan, intimate wellness is a lot more than just that.

Like any other form of wellness, intimate wellness involves taking care of a part of your body to maintain its health and well-being. In this case, it’s the intimate areas.

Shockingly, despite the prevalence and the rising number of sexual diseases in India, there is very little exposure of the general population to good medical care in this regard. So much so that no trained professionals are available, even in Indian cities, to effectively attend to or treat sexual health problems or sexually transmitted diseases. Without specific courses for becoming a sexologist or a sex therapist, specialists like dermatologists, obstetricians, gynecologists', psychiatrists, urologists, and endocrinologists are currently treating patients with sexual disorders.

Owing to the lack (or let’s just say a lapse) of proper and targeted communication and awareness, most people do not know which direction to turn to for guidance or help.

Whether you’re a man or a woman, good hygiene is an absolute requirement. It is the first step towards looking good and feeling confident. It is the first step towards building a civilized world.

A well-groomed person must pay close attention to hygiene. For that, you may have to follow a good cleansing and nourishment routine, use safe products that can help you achieve your goal, and even consult your doctor for recommendations on products to be used and the daily regimen to follow.

After all, if you feel fresh, clean, and healthy down there, you will smell, feel, and look good. And most importantly, stay healthy for a longer time, with no risk of being affected by infections.

What Do We Need To Achieve These Goals?

To determine what intimate hygiene and wellness products you need, you must first understand why you need them. What goes on in your body, particularly in your intimate areas, that makes it so important for you to pay special attention?

Understand Our Body’s Chemical Balance

Understand Our Body’s Chemical Balance

The human body is, for the most part, acidic. And it must remain so. The more alkaline a part of the body turns, the more trouble that part of your body starts to give you. That is why, even while ensuring hygiene, we must ensure that the body’s acidic level is properly maintained.

As for our intimate parts, the skin is softer, more tender. Yet, it is there to protect it from infections that lead to itching, irritation, or dryness. So, attending to its hygiene needs is not as simple as the rest of our body’s skin. We can’t simply lather it up with our favorite soap — or even face wash, which is certainly gentler than bathing soaps — and expect it to work well for our intimate parts.

The skin in and around our intimate areas is far, far more delicate than our facial skin. Besides, a part of the intimate area reaches into the unexposed or interior parts of the body. That makes soaps downright dangerous for use.

For instance, women need to keep the area around their vagina clean, soft, and odor-free to feel comfortable. This area is particularly more acidic than the rest of a woman’s external body.

A typically healthy vaginal fluid has a pH (acid-alkaline) value of 4–4.5 or less. However, if a woman’s vaginal fluid has a pH value of over 4.5, it means she probably has vaginitis and bacterial vaginosis. In some vaginal infections, the pH value may even be as high as 6.5 or more!

Note that regular bathing soaps or washes usually have a pH range of 9-10, while most shampoos have a pH range of 6-7.

That’s why such products are simply UNSAFE for use in your intimate areas.

What Are Safe Intimate Wellness Products?

Safe intimate wellness products include a range of things that you can use to cleanse and nourish your private parts, including intimate wash, moisturizers for intimate areas, intimate hygiene sprays, etc. It doesn’t matter what your gender is; intimate body care products are available for all.

For example, many women these days have started using intimate area skincare products, such as intimate wash and intimate area fresheners, because these can help regulate the pH balance while minimizing bacterial infections. Naturally, these products help chase away bad odors and keep healthy bacteria intact. These not only help women feel fresh, clean, and confident, but they also enhance their intimate experiences with their partners!

But a change in our perspective regarding intimate hygiene doesn’t happen overnight.

It takes practice and a routine. It requires you to change your usual habits and become more self-aware. Becoming self-aware of how s/he smells, feels, and looks can pave the way for a better, healthier, and more well-groomed you!

Today, the internet is playing a big role in this. It has heralded the importance of information sharing and exposed the world to endless possibilities. And sure enough, people who are more self-aware and conscientious have taken the initiative to reach out and connect with the common man (and woman) with the knowledge and understanding about intimate wellness and intimate care products, alongside a deluge of other intimate products relating to sexual intercourse, such as intimate lubricants and stimulating intimate lubes, online sexual health products and sex tools, etc.

But note that not all information available online is reliable. An average person doesn’t usually have the technical know-how of a chemist, doctor, or pharmacologist. We must be incredibly careful and should consult the doctor every time we decide to use intimate products or switch to different ones.

Nevertheless, the first step is to understand the need for intimate wellness and be open to the idea of using products — natural or otherwise.

Good Intimate Wellness Equals Good Life

#1. Self-Care Boosts Self-Esteem

People these days are more aware of the importance of self-care. This understanding has led to a natural positive shift in our overall health and well-being.

But self-care isn’t limited to doing things that make you happy or look pretty on the outside. You must inculcate habits that are good for your body, too. After all, the right habits can be quite powerful. And an intimate knowledge of our private areas can help boost our self-esteem. And that is empowering!

#2. Enjoy A Better Sex Life

Better intimate hygiene leads to a more enjoyable and sustainable sex life. After all, a cleaner, odorless, painless intimate area and an air of confidence can translate well in the bedroom.

After all, we must admit that good sex life can certainly improve one’s overall health and well-being.

#3. Experience An Improved Overall Health

Taking good care of your intimate areas ensures a healthier body. Keeping your private parts clean, nourished, and protected, makes sure you do not suffer from bacterial or fungal infections that can cause dryness, redness, soreness, rashes, or irritation. For the most part, natural and organic intimate care products and water are sufficient.

Apart from that, many good brands of intimate wash, moisturizers for intimate areas, and other intimate area skin care products are available on the market. Moisturizing and nourishing products enable you to stay fresh and rash-free for long hours, despite the sweat and rubbing that our private parts are exposed to, especially during sex or long hot days outdoors.

Intimate Wellness is For Everyone

Intimate hygiene isn’t just for those who are sexually active. People from different walks of life, ages, and genders can benefit from intimate wellness.

For instance, after a certain age (and various life events, such as pregnancy or menopause), women’s libido falls, causing numerous issues, such as vaginal dryness and inability to experience an orgasm. Men, too, may face similar issues in old age.

Just like there are things to aid people in having sex beyond their natural years, there are products that can help people live a normal and comfortable life, free of troubles concerning their intimate areas.

That’s modern science for you!

These days, there are numerous brands of men’s intimate hygiene wash and other wellness products. Similarly, there are many women’s intimate hygiene and wellness products, too.

Having said that, we must also warn you that one must not use random products from the market. It would be wise to consult a doctor before using any intimate care product, especially since some people have experienced some side effects after using products they picked up from the local store without medical supervision.
